La Clase Mágica’s summer was productive, exciting, and full of change!
Our annual Family Bookfair in early June was a hit with the Solana Beach center. Kids and parents enjoyed reading activities, Games, Free books, and much more!
Our student and volunteer based summer research group developed 15 new curriculum pieces which focus on teaching five, 21st century Skills. This was no small task, and our editing process will continue up until the start of the quarter! But we are looking forward to implementing this curriculum, officiating our “Hubs of Innovation” Project, where participants will strive to become experts about their Environment, Health and Nutrition, Financial Literacy, Digital technologies and Language and Culture.
Our electronic entity, “ El Maga” is making a comeback from cyber space into all five after-school sites. Participants will be engaging with curriculum and the five skill sets using a new online Blog called “El Maga’s World.” Here the wise wizard will be their point of contact for their questions, homework help, and addressing their responsibility in the five Hub lessons. The development of this site is an exciting step in connecting all five after-school sites through digital means, and will allow us to keep better records on the progress of participants. ( Much thanks to our digital curriculum developer, Nour Altimim, a senior here at UCSD!)
We also redesigned our LCM website to create a functional site for researchers, supporters and parents to stay updated about our quarterly activities, and read about our recent research. We hope this will bring more interest and visibility to our site and programs. Students will be encouraged to find out how they can get involved through this site! ( Much thanks to our summer intern, Angela Beck, who is entering her senior year at Mater Dei Catholic H. S.!)
We have been updating our systems for data collection and management and are looking forward to a productive year with all our amazing site coordinators and the children we serve!
