CREATE worked closely with the Lincoln High School Youth Health Council in the winter and spring to plan a Community Wellness Series. The series is a 4-part event featuring themes related to health and academic success for youth. In June, the first event, “Feeding the Mind, Body and Spirit,” focused on the importance of nutrition and exercise to support learning and academic success. The July event, “Music and The Mind,” focused on the relationship between music and brain development. “Managing Stress for Academic Success” is the focus of the September event, in which the film “Race to Nowhere” was screened as a wake-up call about stress-related illnesses due to pressures in school. The final event in the series, “Building Healthy Communities,” in October, focuses on future collaborations among educators, parents, the community and youth to support academic success through healthy living.
