Congrats to our partners at IMPACT, the physical fitness program for elementary students featured in today’s This Week @ UC San Diego. IMPACT is an exciting, cross-campus collaboration between UC San Diego School of Medicine Center for Community Health and UC San Diego Athletics with the San Diego Unified School District. The connection between the two campus entities came about through the CREATE STEM Success Initiative, which helps link campus resources to the San Diego K-12 community. Kate McDevitt at School Wellness Programs at UC San Diego’s Center for Community Health and Ken Grosse at UC San Diego Athletics spearheaded the partnership after an introduction by CREATE. CREATE (Center for Research on Educational Equity, Assessment and Teaching Excellence) is an energetic education research and partnership center addressing one of the major challenges facing California and San Diego: getting our diverse community of young people prepared for, admitted to, and succeeding in college and careers. CREATE houses an innovative team of researchers, youth mentors, and professional development experts working with the region’s teachers. We envision the San Diego region as a network of K-20 partners working together to support young people’s growth. View all posts by UCSD CREATE
